Best are- Enid Blyton( Famous five, Secret seven, Fatty series)
If the kids have finished them let them do Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Sherlock Case books..... After that they will move on their own....

Just bought "Horrible Science" by Nick Arnold for my daughter. She's hooked to it, cuz it's not boring and very "funny" she says.
