If its just a hanger about 20 bucks installed. If its a band around the muffler it's better to replace the muffler on back which should run 150 o 200 depending on type of car

muffler hangers are inexpensive at auto stores but if you cant attach them your self find a good friend that works on car. Even if your have to take it to a shop remember you are paying the mechanic hourly but it isn't a big major job could be done in 15 Min's-30 Min's

A muffler shop should be able to replace it for about $20. I'd go with the plumbers tape.
