The world probably would be better, the problem is people use it to serve there purposes such as starting a war. Saying there god said this and wants them to destroy this. Religion is turning political. Since man discovered or invented religion how ever you want to look at it he has been using it to serve his own purposes and it is also very effective in controlling people both in mind and how they act.

If there were no religion what would man have to believe in? In times of stress and trial of the human spirit man turns to their god for strength. If there was no religion then man would find other reasons to wage war it is human nature. I despise war and the cost of human life that it takes but there are times when war is necessary no matter what the cost. The Sunni and Shiite quagmire is beyond religion it is also based on human flaw or humanity's inability to coexist with people who choose to live differently than they choose to live. The human race even though developed still must establish a pecking order when someone is seen as weak or lesser because of who they are then the assumed that a stronger race is best when it fact it is no so it tries to conquer and hence a war is born. this hate or dislike goes back to the time of the Romans and the Greeks and it will likely continue until we as people realize that everyone is made the same two legs, two arms and a beating heart it is that simple yet we as humans make it more complicated that it actually is.

I agree totally. All the wars and conflicts have religious undertones, as well as normally having something to do with money and politics also. Most of the time, these wars are about controlling the majorities. I personally think that the world would be a much better place without religions.

If there were no religions in the world the world would have ended a long time ago. Religions create moral values and ethics that benefit mankind. Can you imagine a world that has no right from wrong and people were able to do what they want. Of course there are those who choose to do whatever they please regardless of moral. All societies are built of a religion which includes the laws that protect us, in a sense no religion no laws no restraint. Humans have been using "religion for power" since the beginning of time. These conflicts have nothing to do with religion. It's about power and says it's about religion. Because if they were actually religious they would embrace their differences and not fight because of them.

Absolutely not!

Man had better stop messing around with what was originally a pure concept.

"Pure religion, undefiled before the Lord, is this: To take care of the orphans and the widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." --James 1:27.

Christianity, in its purest, primitive form, would not bring about the sect-to-sect violence that insitutional Islam has wrought, nor the wars insituted by the not-so-Holy Roman Empire. The early Christians did not put up a fight -- even when fed to lions.

Now tell me again how much better off we'd be without religion? And let's be more specific of WHICH religion you're talking about next time. Don't throw us all in the same basket, please. Islam is a completely different animal than Christianity ... or Judaism.

You are perfectly right to think so. We need such enlightened thinking and thinkers. The world will and should indeed be without any religions. We should work towards establishing a secular world. As a part of reforming the UN, we should have a special cell at UN to promote secularism in every member country through education. All educational institutions should be barred from teaching any religion. All institutions based on religion should be turned into Community Secular Centres. Steps taken in that direction now and in the years to come may result in a world without religion in at least fifty years or so!

Why keep a religion? Are you going to say yours is best and should be supreme?

If there were no religions there would have been far fewer wars. People would get on more peaceably together. Just look at what the Christian bigots particularly, trot out on this site.

You do not need religion to live a good, clean and honest life. In fact those without religion often live much better lives than those who worship!

All religions fight. It can't be explained other than it's human nature to wage war. If you're from the US, you should know that religion helped shape this country. If it weren't for the Ten Commandments, we wouldn't have our Constitution. Religion does many good things for many people, but the media always wants to report on the bad things, so the good things that actually take place are never known.

So, I think it would be better if we had no media, but in terms of religions, I think we all need them.

No I don't agree... I believe a religion gives a person an identity and a reason to live... it's just that a person should belong to the "belief" itself and not to a church or whatever... religious men throughout the years showed that they were the reason behind people's devision and still people follow em..jesus said "listen to their words yet don't act according to their acts" People who have conflicts aren't really following their religion for I don't believe any god religion asks for conflicts and wars.. however they all ask for PEACE among people and nations...:)

Without religion (we would be a lost people, with no direction, no morals, no guideline to live by.) If your question is... if we only had one religion and no others were allowed to be studied and/or followed, I would have to say yes. We would be a peacefull world. United with one sight for the future. We would all work together to acheive greatness.

Unfortunately, this is not the case. So we continue to lash out toward our non-believers and the War rages on.
