They are filter feeders, which means that they strain the water looking for anything digestible, floating algae, microorganisms etc. I have two in my fish tank and they do quite well without any care at all.

Whatever they can strain out of the water. They are "bivalve mollusks," which means that they pump water in and out. Anything small enough to be suspended in the water goes into their digestive system.

they are filter feeders.. therefore they eat stuff in the water. so you should but newborn brine shrimp in the water or if your tank has been setup for awhile then you shouldn't have to feed them because they will eat the bacteria and micro-organisms in the water
