Has World War III started? Maybe. All three Abrahamic religions believe in the messiah. Pray for the messiah to come and bring lasting peace before the world destroys itself.

Give it another couple of months.
Here's what will probably happen: Iran never wanted to get involved in the first place, but we will probably do something dumb that will end up with their leader (president? prime minister? chancellor?) getting assassinated. He will be the ultimate martyr and if you think we've got a jihad on our hands now, just you wait! The other scenario is that nutjob over in North Korea who just can't wait to lauch something at us. I'm not sure of why we've wasted so much time d*cking around in Iraq instead of dealing with North Korea. The final possiblity is that, because nobody has learned that it is unwise to not poke sleeping bears with a stick, somebody is eventually going to p*ss off Russia or one of the other former Soviet countries that still has all of those WMD's. The former Soviet's are already annoyed with all of us, so once somebody pokes them too hard, it's on!

The magnitude of destruction, death and alliances are not even close to WWI and WWII. This is terrorism, un-uniformed criminal organizations killing people to cause fear.
The Geneva Convention is nearly obsolete; it assumes countries at war, not criminal bands of zealots killing for sport. So this doesn't fall into the same category of conflict as the first World Wars.
But it's still awful.

for something to become a World War, there need to be several fronts preferbly in different continents, between different countries about the same cause.... otherwise it is just a 'normal' war
what makes you think WWIII has starte, which conflict are you referring to??
