It's called 'the classifieds'. They are found in your local 'Newspaper'.
You have to 'read' them.
Then you have to use the 'telephone' to 'call' the advertised places.
You can do all this from the comfort of your home or friend's apartment or pay phone for that matter.

use Craigslist.com ....it has cities all over the world depending on where you are! that's how i found my apartment!

just click that link...it will take you to san francisco bay area first but there are links on the side..to take you to all different states and countries/cities etc.
