The lump is a raise in the floor right in front of the sink. It's about 6 inches in length and maybe 3 inches in width and appears to be having to do with the beam. This has only recently happened since my kitchen sink sprung a leak. I'm concerned about mold or rotting. My father in law says this is nothing to be concerned over and someone else said it might be the house swelling and settling due to the extreme heat we've had lately. If anyone has any advice please I'd love to hear.

The "lump" does not move any when stepped on. I would have expected it to sink in a bit when stepped on but it feels very solid like the rest of the floor. It's just raised a bit.

Sounds like the glue bond has broke in the floor, you can determine this by how hard it is to push down. If it is in the rug/ floor covering you can use a utility knife, cut a slit and insert glue, put weight on it for 24 hrs. If it is in the subfloor it is a major fix. The rug would have to come up and the bad area cut out. May be a good idea to report it to your home owners insurance.
Good Luck..

They could be right. Depending on the type of floor you have. I don't know about the beam. It seems it either is the floor swelling and pushing the subfloor and flooring up or your leak has caused it to become swollen. What happens when you step on it. Does it move it all or a very hard spot? If it moves your floor has become wet or swollen with humidity. If your kitchen sink hoses drain etc... has been repaired I wouldn't worry too much about mold etc... Wood can get wet from time to time without damage, it is when it is constant or sitting in water for a very long time you have to worry about mold, rot and decay. Wait and see, you may have to repair it. Good Luck!

you have water damage. the floor has soaked up the leak. replace the flooring before the foundation rots and you fall through.

If you have plywood or particle board floor(under the tile) it has gotten wet and swelled(laminations have seperated). To fix it will require major surgery on your floor(and repaceing tile) .
