I'm 33 and ttc for 8 months now. My cycle is 21 days. My doc suggested I begin taking prenatal vitamins. I started yesterday and ever since have been feeling nauseous. Do prenantal vitamins have the ability to make you feel this way even if you are not yet pregnant but ttc?

Instead of PNV's try taking 2 kids vitamins like Flintstones. That's what I did in all my pregnancies and it helped.

It's the iron in the vitamins that is causing your nausea. You'll need to try different kinds until you find one that is the right brand for you. Most prenatal vitamins contain high levels of vitamin A which can cause miscarriage or serious birth defects and this may also cause nausea. Be sure your vitamins do NOT contain more than 8,000 to 10,000 IUs of vitamin A palmitate. I use the Safeway brand of vitamins (the pink tablets) which you can purchase at any Safeway store if you have them in your area. They are the only ones that do not make me nauseous during pregnancy and they have low vitamin A levels. You can also take Floradix instead of prenatals. They make a type for pregnant women and the iron is easier to absorb. It's a liquid and it tastes nice. You can find it in any natural food store.

Yes, they can. Ask the doctor about a different prenatal vitamin that contains vitamin B or B-12, I can't remember exactly. I had to take those, they are special prenatal vitamins created for nausea.

Well when I was pregnant, the prenatal vitamins made me very sick. I was nauseous and light headed. Before my next appt. with my doctor, I tried taking them at different times to see if I could fix the problem. I found out that if I ate half my breakfast then took the vitamins and finished my breakfast, I felt just fine. You might want to try that. If it doesn't work call your doctor. Good luck with this and hope all goes well with you.

Yes prenatal vitamins can cause nausea. If you start to feel nauseous then eat a couple crackers and that usually helps.

yes, I am five weeks and I started taking prenatal as soon as I found out. UGH a few min after taking them I got real nauseated. But I am not nauseated any time after that. I told my doctor what was going on and she prescribed me some prenatal yesterday, this morning when I took the first one, I was nauseated. I haven't been all morning. :)
Ask your doctor to prescribe you some, they are better then the ones that are over the counter.

Yes, they can totally make you feel ill. Try taking them before bed. Or cut them in half and take half in the morning the other at night. Or try taking with a meal. They are just very strong vitamins, so you may have to play around with them to see how to introduce them to your system without the side effects.

It is very common for vitamins to cause an upset stomach, pregnant or not. Try taking them right after a meal.

Yes they can make you nauseous, and they can constipate you. ( the iron ) I would make sure I ate a little something like yogurt or toast before bed and then take the vitamin, usually you are so tired and your asleep so you don't feel the nausea.
good luck !!
