It depends a great deal on what part of the state you're in. The lowland east is the hottest, muggiest part of the state in summer, particularly around Norfolk and Richmond, and extends all the way up to the Washington suburbs. The mountainous west is cooler in the summer, and usually has a lot more snow in the winter. The northern Shenandoah Valley is significantly drier than the rest of the state.

it changes all the time,
hot and humid as hell in the summer,
Winters can be crazy depending on where you are, sometimes warm hardly no snow other times you can get a blizzard and ice storms.
