i know this sounds really stupid. but when my monitor goes into sleep mode it makes this noise. the noise sounds like when you pour milk in a bowl full of rice crispy's {the snap, crackle, pop} noise . why does it make that sound and what is that sound?

it is cooling down. the monitors get real hot and when they go into sleep mode they cool down and start making sounds like crinkeling paper.
or it could be all the junk you have on the top of your monitor that is getting hot and starting to burn

It's static dispersion... when the monitor is on, it holds a static charge... when it turns off, that static pops and crackles.

It is just static. If you have a CRT it created the imaging using charged electron. That is just the sound of ever thing "neutralizing"

LOL!! I know what youre talking about..don't really know the answer though. Maybe it is just 'settling down' you know like a house sometimes makes noises<:)

Its static electricity just like when you pull your clothes out of the dryer and they stick together and shock you sometimes.

yeah like everone else said it is static sometimes TVs do the same thing but it is not as loud
