saliva contains the enzyme amylase and trace amounts of other enzymes like lingual lipase and dismutase. but you should be primarily concerned with amylase.

amylase breaks some starches down into maltose and dextrin. thus, digestion of food occurs within the mouth, even before food reaches the stomach.

the ptyalin that's mentioned above is the same as amylase. ptyalin is the name given to the amylase found in saliva.

As far as, tenth class course is concerned, saliva consist both of ptaylin and amylase. I donna know the function of amylase but Ptaylin breaks complex starch molecules into sugar
