This is not a good strategy when used in the extreme, although at times it seems like it would work well and I agree that we need to adopt a more hands off approach to a large amount of "world issues".
It is a major fallacy to think that we can not or are not doing more than one thing at one time. Being involved in world matters doesn't mean that suddenly domestic matters sit still. Spending billions of dollars in foreign areas does not deprive other areas of money, and this of course is working only under the assumption that money cures all ills.
Our interest lie all over the world and we need to protect these interests. Certain things this country needs are cheaper and better produced in other areas. We need to grow this, not stiffle it and at the same time we need to protect it.

Isolationist policies have historically been only harmful to countries. It would be better if the US looked after its domestic concerns with a higher priority than foreign ones. It is ridiculous to spend billions of dollars fighting when there are thousands of children in the US at or below the poverty line without food, education or health insurance! The US created the UN, so why doesn't our government trust it anymore? Unfortunately, however, the US got the country involved in foreign affairs and now that the fingers are in the pie it would be even more tragic to just suddenly disappear. This is why so many people compare it to Vietnam.

I don't think this would work at all. In fact it would make our domestic problems worse. I aggree that we have very serious problems in our country. But we live in a world not just a country. The worlds problems are our problems because if left unchecked we could end up in very serious trouble.
Staying out of WWI and WWII in the beginning was a huge mistake. Nip the problems in the bud. You're suggesting not paying attention to Irans nuclear ambitions and thats just crazy.

I think this way too from time to time. But isolationism has never been a solution. History shows that when the US had such policies we were still pulled into major events.
WWI, WWII
Both times we had such a strategy and in the end we had to be the ones to get the job done. One other thing, don't leave anything to the french. They haven't been able to do anything constructive since Napoleon.
America needs to do this. Sure we aren't going to make many friends but in the end, it is the right thing to do. Doing the right thing isn't always easy but it does have to be done.

You could try to do it. Once in the comunism there was estimation that USSR could do that and last for not more than 50 years, before the real crisis hit it, as you know USSR doesn't exist since 1990 without isolation.
There is something else USA is the country of immigrants, that is the "fresh blood" that helps its progress in whatever field you choose. So imagine what would happen if USA isolates itself, how long do you think it could last?

u . s . must have closed its borders lengthy beforehand the swine flu difficulty... With that reported, definite u . s . might want to close its border and we'd want to continuously quarantine any persons who're coming by air, boat or different mode of transportation from the contaminated parts of Mexico. We used to quarantine those who arrived right here from different international places yet for some reason we do not do this anymore (probable someone complained of it violating their civil rights). We quarantine animals and fruit in Hawaii, yet we do not do this right here, to my expertise, on the continental united states...i hit upon that atypical...pretty in mild of the very undeniable actuality that TB and hepatitis have better with those lax guidelines. i assume the gov't will wait till a wide type of human beings get contaminated or die beforehand they manage it contained in the right way. i ought to favor to receives a fee to do little or no longer something at my pastime. Don't be so creepy. You're as bad as the proponents for illegal immigration. You just go in the other direction from them. Quit wasting your time by asking hateful questions. Nobody is reading you.
Go to France if you think they can do better. Our country has its faults--but, we love it. And, we can't be duped in to what you would like for it to be.
Are you sure you aren't a Muslim sympathizer trying to foment trouble in America? We are only one country, Muslim deceiver. You give yourself away by thinking you're in Europe. Hah!
For Thyza: I have two different types of Native-American blood in me. My great-grandfather was from Scotland. My mother's side of the family is descended from two different Native-American tribes and French immigrants. So, that bee ess won't work either.
What makes you think all Native-Americans are "Red Skins?" Are you certain you're not talking about the "Washington Red Skins? 'Cause if you're talking about Native-Americans, I have a few friends who would like to talk to you about the term Red Skins.
You've got to be a Muslim disguising yourself as a South American, huh?
I also grew up in farming country. I did the jobs you lie and say we don't do. Read the email I sent you.

Good idea. Maybe then the rest of the world could get on and live our lives in peace without you starting wars, installing dictators, stealing oil etc. Sounds a fair deal to me. When will you start? Soon I hope.

Yes. Well, almost. Support for our long time allies like the UK and Israel, but not fair weather friends who only like us when they need us. We need to get out of the UN and kick their a** out. The disdain and disrespect they have for the US is unbelievable considing that 95% of their military strength comes from US. We could have been done with Hussein 10 years ago, but we listened to the UN and just kicked him out of Kuwait.
Let us stop being the world's social worker and policeman.

Some people knows that U.S. is the American dream, but the true is: U.S. is only for Americans, the people like us made the jobs that the "gringos" dint like, we made all manual jobs that the "gringos" can not do it, because we are work people. In every place there are bad people, not all the in migrants are bad...
The government can made law for regulate this migrate move, but the in migrant ever... ever made your jobs and enrichment the U.S. economy.
