That's a toss up since they can both be trained to do different things but since dogs are bigger they can be trained to do more.....But have you ever seen eight cat's pulling people threw snow even if they could be trained to do it they wouldn't
Problem is cats are to independent to follow or take orders unless they want to basically a dog wants to make you happy a cat could careless until your late with the food

It all depends on what you consider "intelligence". There are many different forms. For example, just because Albert Einstein failed his college entrance exams doesn't mean he was mildly retarded.
If you rate intelligence by how successful an animal is in the world look to the animal that is most successful in the wild. Dogs and wolves are extremely close as are cats and lions. Both wolves and lions live in family packs/prides and hunt together using strategy and they are both successful.
Going back to cats compared to dogs, when my dog looks at me, I know she is thinking and that is usually about tummy rubs, going for walks and "how can I get some of that people food?". Whereas, my cat....when he looks at me I know he's thinking, but of what I can not fathom. There is more going on behind a cats exterior then they will let on.
In the end though, I do not believe one is more intelligent than another. They both have their own merits and instincts developed to suit their specific needs over centuries of living and learning.

It really depends on both the breed and the individual animal. I'm a fan of cats so I'd love to say cats are smarter but believe me I have met some truly dumb cats. My old boss's cat would go in the cupboard and forget how to get out.
Whether a dog or cat is easily trained has to do with its nature and not its intelligence. Whether they are able to perform certain tasks often depends on their physical build and not their brains.
I still think they can be equally intelligent.

Elvis rules! I have a cat and dog. I believe that cats are smarter. left on their own they will survive. Dogs are more loyal, no doubt. All those people that say cats can't be trained I have to ask have you ever seen a "Wolf" show? Me neither, but I have seen tiger and lion shows. Cats are totally trainable. Plus I have never seen my cat poop on the floor and roll in it or puke and then eat it, but the dog....well, he has done these things multiple times.

Between my two cats and my two dogs, I think the cats have much better manners. I'm not sure if this makes more intelligent or not though. I have come to the conclusion that cats are more like girls...clean, quiet...and dogs are more like boys...dirty, eat anything in sight, loud, always panting. Oh...and the dogs always tear their toys up and the cats never tear their's up. All of them are girls.

Well how many cats have you seen that will sit on command or roll over...even fetch a ball?
If cats were more intelligent then maybe the police or rescue squad would use them...lol
Cats probably have more of a 'sensibility' than dogs, though.

Dogs are more intelligent than cats. Dogs can learn many more commands.

I've seen a cat poop.
I don't like cats but I do think that cats are more intelligent. Could be their way of being though.
