as far as I know, the reason for my being here in the USA is because my ancestors found it unbearable to stay where they were, and none of my family tree ever returned to where they came from

Umm...perhaps because they still have family there?? That would be a logical assumption. I work with many foreign physicians who return to their homeland on a nearly annual basis - usually to deal with family (especially sick, elderly parents). One of my docs is actually planning to return there to live.

Actually, I heard Lebanon is a beautiful place to visit. Egypt was a great place to vacation I think there is a lot to draw people there, why else would everyone want to fight and kill for the middle eastern lands EVEN before the oil boom. It's the birthplace of us all, scholars say all races stem from the middle east or ever more precise, from Africa.
You should visit the mideast and you can appreciate the beauty and history and also the inviting culture. And if Israel started bombing the country you were visiting while you were there then I'm sure you would flee.

Most recent immigrants in America are here because it is easier to find good, well paying jobs, among hundreds of other reasons. When they came here, they left friends and family that they cared about in their homeland. Now, I don't know about you, but most people like to have contact with their family, especially when seperated by so much.
There is also the fact that there is a quality American university in Lebanon, where not everyone studying there is Lebonese American. There are also resorts along the Mediteranean, jobs, and a number of other reasons to be in that country.

Many people immigrate to the United States for economic rather than democratic reasons. These people often disagree with the politics of the United States and sometimes even totally disagree with democracy as is the case of most Muslims and communists. When, for example, Muslims come to the United States, they start businesses and in many cases money gets funneled back to terrorists organizations. This is supposed to be some sort of "just reward" to Americans because of the US support of Israel.
Read the websites listed below.....and the following passages from the Qur'an
The Quran says {English, transliteration, Arabic}:
(4:95) Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of God with their goods and their persons. God hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath God promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward,- (Yusuf Ali trans.)

I find your question lacking intelligence.
Americans that visit family in other countries - whether it be Italy, China, Australia, Britain or Lebanon - is completely normal. Lebanon wasn't at war with Israel when they made their vacation plans.
Going back to visit family or vacation doesn't negate their reasons for coming to the US in the first place.
Luckily for you they don't make you pass a test to be a citizen. I don't think you would pass.

I understand it. These are immigants to the usa, that came here for citizenship, and decided to go back. They hold on to their usa citizenship so they can leave whenever things get too hot (and they dont have to go to Syria).
Most of those people support Hezbollah, unfortunately.

Traveling is not a crime. As for why are they fleeing Lebanon, perhaps because the bombing makes it dangerous??
