My husband has a tarantula & I held it - it brushed some Urticating hairs (the hairs that are meant to drive away predators) onto my hands & now they itch so bad they are going to drive me insane!!!
PLEASE help & don't tell me to get rid of the spider or make fun of me!!

Urticating hairs can be removed from skin with good quality cellophane tape or packing tape. Wash the area of the lesion with soap and water and apply an antiseptic ointment in a petrolatum base.

Lanacaine, or some other anti-itch. Urticating hairs are what is in itching powder. Visit the drug store.

Unfortunately it's going to itch for awhile. I've had this happen both to me and my boyfriend, and it's not much fun. You'll want to get an anti-itch cream from the grocery store. It won't completely take care of things, but it will make life much, much more bearable.

them things are like fiberglass if the hairs are still in there which i suspect that they are you can brush some rubber cement on the area and let it dry very good the glue will stick to your hand and also the hairs when you pull the dry glue off most of the hairs will come with it you may need to do it 2 or 3 times

I'm afraid its a defensive reaction, the best thing to do is get some hydrocortisone cream from the chemist and apply it to your hands. This should reduce the itching and inflammation.

Thats what those hairs are supossd to do. A tatarantula will flick those hairs at its attackers as a warniging sign. i think the itching will go away. did you pet it so the hair would come off?
