I am going to buy a new PC soon, and I'm thinking about buying the new Intel Core Duo 20'' Imac, and have it as the sole computer at home. I'm a heavy user of Windows apps and, most of all, games.

Does it perform well enough for gaming? Am I better-off with a standard PC with a decent LCD attached?

In tests, the Mac running Windows XP outpreformed normal PCs running Windows XP in games and general applications. If you get a Mac, just buy a two-button mouse, and you're ready to go! GET A MAC, BECAUSE THE MACINTOSH OS IS MUCH BETTER THAN WINDOWS XP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you say good enough for gaming....does that mean all settings turned on high and no chance of fps going below 60? If that's the case I think a high end PC wit a decent LCD would be better. However if your not a hard core gamer and some setting can be on medium or high then a mac could be for you.

If you do choose a mac and are planing on staying with OSX games are not always optimized very well. However you can check to see if they offer the games you play for mac. I have an iBook G4 and absolutely love it. I hardly ever have to touch a windows machine. My boyfriend also just bought a MacBook Pro and it's speeds are amazing. I can't wait to get one myself. Another option is to install windows on your new mac. Using a program called boot camp will let you dual boot Windows and OSX letting you have the best of both worlds when ever you want it. Good luck with your purchase and once you go mac you'll never want to go back! :)

Yeah the intel core Imac will let you run windows since you like their apps plus give you the Mac OS X as well. I personally favor the Mac OS but if you want an Imac, you'll be good for games and such. They seem to run smoother on my Imac versus my girlfriends e-machine. She hasn't done any upgrading on the e-machine though as far as graphics cards and the like but both the computers are the same age.

I just recently bought an Acer Aspire with an Intel Core Duo 1.66 GHz, 2 MB RAM, and it's pretty impressive in regards to multitasking. I do 3D modeling and animation, and it's ridiculously fast; around 2-3x faster than a Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz with Hyperthreading w/ 2 GB RAM. It has the ability to run a full system virus scan whilst playing games or modeling or whatever, and I only have the 1.66 GHz processor. These processors were MADE for gaming. Go for it. You won't be disappointed.

^ I bet your Acer doesn't run OS X, which is what this Mac will run.

If you are big into games, you might want to stick with Windows. If you are really big into games, you might want to stick with a desktop so you have more upgrade options in the future.
