I am sorry, I can't answer all your questions.
My experience has been with older cats and older parrots. Once my cats retired from outdoor life, their claws grew longer and got caught in everything, so had to be trimmed. I preferred a professional to do this, but it wasn't always possible. I didn't have to pay as I gave free English lessons to my vet in return for some medical services for my pets. (I live in a non-English speaking country.)
The birds' claws were often growing looped and long despite lots of different sized perches and wooden branches. Clipping had to be done with the help of a friend; someone to hold the bird gently, and someone to carefully clip the claws.
In both cases I found that clipping or cutting nails is much like mowing a lawn; the more often you do it; the faster it grows back.
For example, at first it was once in six months, then once in three, then once a month etc.
It was never a pleasant experience; neither for pet nor for me, so if you can find a pet groomer who will do it inexpensively, that is probably better. Most pets will remain calmer in a stranger's hands, because they already know how to manipulate your emotions (just like human kids.)
A professional has been trained to remain calm and hence will not make a mistake under pressure.
On the whole, I wouldn't recommend clipping nails or claws unless absolutely necessary.
Hope this helps!

Dogs nails shouldn't have to be trimmed if they gets the walks they need on concrete or hard flooring.
Other pets like rabbits should probably need trimming but again not if their allowed on concrete once in a while. If you haven't done it before you must not attempt to do it yourself, dogs have nerves in their claws and if you cut to deep you will hurt the dog and cause bleeding. First timers need go to the vets to get them trimmed and ask them to show you how to do it yourself properly. If they tell you not to, their probably blagging your head so you go there and spend more money but most vets will show and advise you but if you're not sure let the vet do it every time after all you don't want to hurt your pet do you!

I have one dog & 2 cats. I trim their nails every 3-4 weeks myself at home. I would not pay someone to do this.

1. Depends on the animal and the animal's age. I trim them when they need it.
2. I trim them myself. All you have to do is look for the demarcation line to know where the nerves and blood vessels start. Just don't go beyond the line and you're fine.
3. No.
4. I wouldn't. It's easy to trim their claws.

I have three cats. I trim their nails myself at least once a month. I have always and will always do it myself. I would never pay for something I can do myself, nor would I put my cats through the stress of the trip (to and from) or having to deal with strangers.

2. Do it myself with a pet nail grinder

3. Probably not, free for me to do it.

4. Nothing...can do it myself

I trim my dogs nail about every two weeks to once per month.
I do them myself it is easy.
My dogs nver go the the groomer I have Weimaraners and Dobermans both easy to bathe and groom.
I would not use such a service.
I know people who would as they are afraid to trim thier dogsnial or the dog will not let them trim.

I have dogs. i trim as needed. maybe once a month. if you walk your dog on pavement alot though, this helps keep their nails short, so trimming isn't needed as often. i do it myself because i can't pay to have that many dogs done. my vet charges $7 for each animal. its reasonable if you don't or can't do it yourself. if the nail service in my area was free, i would use it. that way, if a mistake happens, they don't associate it with Mamma. lol. (when i say mistake, i mean cutting too close to the quick)

my dog never has his nails clipped. He goes on such long walks they don't need to be done. But my mothers dog, who is geting on a bit( the dog, not the mother) has her nails done twice a month, cause they grow too quick for her to wear down as she has trouble getting around now. Poor thing, bless.

but if it had to be done, i'd do it myself. A vet is just as likely to make a mistake as you are!

1. Every 3 weeks to a month (varies). Generally when I notice they're snagging things. I have nine indoor cats.

2. We do it ourselves

3. Probably not, would be too $$$ for nine cats, and it doesn't take that long with my husband's help.
