It takes about 4-5 years to get a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.
There are the "required" courses to meet state and university standards (like English, Science, etc).
Then, there are the "core" classes for the education degree-
theory, classes on testing, etc.
Then, the classes for the pre-school/elementary teacher-
techniques, teaching reading, etc.
Then, there are the classroom experiences- time in the classroom not including student teaching.
Finally, student teaching.
You will probably want to check out the College of Education at whatever college or universities that interest you. See what it offered.
As a former teacher, I would say, the more experience you can get in the classroom and with students, the better. You will be ready before you step into the classroom your first day of student teaching.
good luck.

It depends on where you live. Most elementary teachers need a major in early childhood, elementary education or some primary education major. You would take classes in child development, child psychology, teaching methods, multiculturalism, reading, etc. Check the website for the university you want to attend and look under the college of education. It will list requirements

You would enroll in an education college at a university and take their curriculum, it would involve General Education and then as you progressed you would take a lot of classes on behavior, development, and teaching techniques. Then you do a methods semester and finally student teach. It will take you on average four years, maybe more or less depending on your success and dedication.
Be careful though because the teaching market is not the greatest, last time I checked there were only four states actively hiring teachers. You will most likely need to relocate after graduation to get a job.
And also, sometime in the future you will need to go back to school to get your masters degree.

It depends on what state you live in. In Minnesota, an early childhood education teacher or an elementary school teacher needs a bachelor's degree--so about 4 years. Students take courses on child development, curriculum development and have to have classroom experience in addition to student teaching.
Check with a large university in your state or with your state's department of education.

They would be an education major (at least that's what it's called here) and take whatever classes the major required.

4 years for your bachlors degree. You need to do your general classes and then methods and classes on reading. Things like that. You might also consider psych classes as they really help to understand how children learn and think.
