What's not to love?! lol the scene where the grandfather tells the grandson everything in the book! Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles . . . "is this a kissing book??"
The entire cast was perfect - it could not have been done any better. Rob Reiner proved that he was far more than "Meathead" any day with that film. Sigh - now I want to go home & watch it. We quote from it all the time - my kids will take a quote & just run the entire scene! Not bad for an 11 & 7 year old. It's a CLASSIC!
Have fun storming the castle!! Think it'll work? It'll take a miracle!!! They don't make 'em like that anymore!

My husband hates the princess bride, and some friends know every word by heart. I just recently saw it for the first time and I don't get it. It's not that great a film. It's not the evil menace my husband made it out to be, but it's not the classic that my friends made it out to be either. It's kind of mediocre junk that doesn't really know what it wants to be so it pairs modern references with fantasy elements. It's kind of mixed up and not well acted either. You need subtitles to know exactly what Andre the giant is saying!

LOL I didn't really think it was all that great when I first saw it. Then I had a boyfriend who kept telling me, "As you wish" Finally I asked him why he kept telling me that! He said, its from the Princess Bride. I was so dense I still didn't get it. Then one night we watched it together and as thick as I was - I finally got it! It was such a sweet way to say, "I love you" Well, no other man has ever measured up to him, so far at least!
So yes, the movie is definitely a classic in my book! And its amazing just how many people know different quotes from that movie!!!

INCONCEIVABLE!!!
The Princess Bride as a classic? How? It's been mostly dead all day....
Now we should face each other as God intended. Sportsmanlike. No tricks, no weapons, skill against skill alone.
You mean, you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword, and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?
Now Go away or I will call the brute squad...
No I do not like the movie or anything about it... I just have watched it.... uh... 1 or 2 (dozen) times
Back in high school between my friends and I we could do the whole movie during lunch.

Agree wholeheartedly! But the book is even better! So incredibly clever -- a classic William Goldman book. Have you read it? If you haven't, you should. It's not difficult reading and it's really great. There's lots of stuff in it that you miss in the movie (although the movie is awesome as well; one of my favourites).

guy i experience old. I reported this action picture on a date in severe college, and after I went to purchase it a twelve months or so in the past, the cashier suggested "i respect this action picture. I reported it even as i changed into little." convinced it truly is what i'd call a Neo classic. The e book is a classic besides. i changed into reading at artwork and about harm myself lauging after I study the "Aaaaassss yyyyoooouuuu wiiissshhhh" scene.

I thoroughly agree! It's one of my absolute favorites. My boyfriend refuses to watch it because of the title, but I keep trying to show him that it's not a chick flick and is really funny and is a classic.

I would define it a as a cult classic. It's definitely a movie with a following but its one that people either love or hate.
