My Niece has underarm odor and it smells like a full grown adult arm. I discovered it when she came to my house. Why does she smell like this?

My daughter had the same problem. The doc told me it was milk deposits and sweat glands. I had to wash her underarms 5 times a day. The doc said some kids have this problem and that is was nothing to worry about. My daughter is 1 now, and doesn't have this problem anymore. She must have grown out of it.

This isn't normal at all. A person's sweat glands don't start to mature and put off a "sweaty" odor until puberty. Is it possible her mom or dad (or whoever was carrying her most recently before she came to visit you) had bad body odor and it transferred to the little girl through her clothing (i.e. Mom was sweaty and holding the little girl on her hip to carry her, and the girl's arm was resting near the mom's arm pit)?

No, it's not normal....perhaps hygiene is an issue? After bathing and fresh clothes, how long does it take for the odor to reappear?

I'd definitely be a little concerned...perhaps a check up with the pediatrician is in order.

I would have to say that a good wash will get rid of this. A baby that young would not have that odor if washed daily. Also nurses say that anywhere skin meets skin for exssesive periods of time should have baby powder.

Not being a Dr i really cant offer any real advice about what to do about this issue but i can say that an infant shouldn't have odor because they haven't developed. puberty. talk to a Dr

probably because she is not being bathed properly.
Babies can get a smell to if they are not given a bath.
