It is for a bathroom overhead light as you walk in. Does the wall that encloses the switch have to be a certain depth or length?

The National Electrical Code has no requirement on the height of a light switch. The only requirement is the switch must be accessible.

There is no code requirements
Put the switch for your convience, most switches are right at 48 inches to 52 above the finish floor to accpmadate the sheet rock joints,
If you are going in the attic drill thur all the top plates and drop 72 inches or so
might want to measure up 49 inches or at what ever height you want think of wife and kids how tall they are . turn power off when making connections
