If you want players based on statistics only, it's really hard to say who would rank as the two greatest players of all-time. Different eras, the length of career, size of ballparks, etc. make it hard to compare the numbers of Babe Ruth to Barry Bonds, or Cy Young to Roger Clemens. With that being said, I'd say the greatest hitter of all-time is Ted Williams -- his numbers would have been even more incredible than they are if he didn't go off to fight in World War II and the Korean War, and I'd have to go with Sandy Koufax for greatest pitcher, even though he only played 12 seasons... If you double his stats and the length of his career (assuming he had no drop-off as he got older), his would have had a career record of 330 wins, 174 losses, 4,792 strikeouts and a career ERA of 2.76. Those still aren't the greatest statistics of all-time, but he'd be in the top ten in almost every category, and not many pitchers can claim that...

Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb
Ruth was also an accomplished pitcher before he went to the Yankees.
Ty was a terror on the basepaths (despite his raging racism)

Position Players: Hank Aaron & Pete Rose
Pitchers: Nolan Ryan & Cy Young (they named the award after him for a reason).

Bonds
Ruth
Ted Williams
in no particular order.

IN MY OWN OPINION: Your an idiot. Babe Ruth was definatly an all-around player. He could hit. He could pitch. He could rack RBI's. So, he defiatly is one. My other one is Lou Gehrig. Homers. RBI's. SB's. Thanks for the 2 points.
