giving them the material things and not enough of the emotional support. I dont know when the TV replaced the parent, but it did. Then you watch little kids trying to dance like Britney and Christina. And then you have this stupid shop at the mall that wants to dress your child in slutty clothes and make-up at the age of 5. Well, society has to want a change for any change to happen.

There's very little consistency is today's parenting. Today's "no" may be tomorrows "yes". Kids HAVE to KNOW their boundaries...otherwise they will act out and rebel just to see how far the parents will let them go. It's a whole lot easier for parents to just "give in" and bribe a kid to "be good" rather than to take the time to explain the RULES and stick by them NO MATTER WHAT. There have been times that my kids have acted out at a store....instead of sighing and losing my cool or bribing them to "please behave while mommy shops" I've simply pushed the cart aside and went home. Then, they lost whatever priviledges they were going to have for the day. Sometimes that even means a cancelled trip to Nana's....but SO BE IT. It would have been a whole lot easier to just bribe my kids in the store and enjoy 15 minutes of peace. However, they would have been brats AGAIN soon enough. It's much harder to set hard fast rules and stick by them. Staying at home with crying children because they want to go to Nana's (not to mention a Nana on the phone begging for forgiveness on the children's behalf) is NOT EASY. However, years later I am reaping the benefits of the hard labor of consistent parenting. It is rare now that my children back talk or that I have to tell them twice to do anything. And I can take them to do my weekly grocery shopping without having a nervous breakdown...in fact, they enjoy helping me plan the weeks meals. Good kids takes effort.....and many parents don't want to put in the time.....sad but true.

Unfortunately, it's because their parents let them get away with it. I saw some kids once in Wal-Mart that were total brats, and their parents had a cart full of toys for them. I told their mother the way to get them to behave was to put all the toys back, take all their toys away at home, their t.v.'s, stereos, everything and make them earn them back. She just smiled. Parents who bribe their kids are creating monsters.

Because no one makes them behave! Rules, boundaries, and limitations. Without enforcing the rules, kids learn they can do whatever they want with no repercussions.

Parents are too afraid to dicipline their children and give them the values of right and wrong -- because of this they just go crazy.
