Of course he was out of line, without a doubt! I mean, where would we all be if we would act this way on every provocation?
And also: how can you, or any one of us for that matter, know what was actually being said or what was going on between them?

Absolutely. Plus, he was a fool. The other player's trash talk was trying to provoke Zidane into doing something stupid and getting thrown out of the game. The Italian played Zidane like a violin - Zidane butted him and was out, just like the Italian player wanted. Zidane probably cost France the championship and EVERYONE knows it.
He should have ignored the comment until after the game.
There's a good lesson here - don't let anyone goad you into anger, and doing something stupid.

Well, I don't know exactly what Materazzi said, but if it made the usually even-tempered Zidane angry, then it must have been bad. Zidane is human, we all get angry sometimes. Anyone would react like that. I read about when Jens Lehmann was playing with Borussia Dortmund and some fans started shouting insults at him, calling his wife a *****, and saying rude things about his newborn son, he got quite angry and walked up to them to punch them. Again, that is a human reaction, to get angry when someone insults you. We all have feelings and emotions. And if someone insults you like that, you would react too. I brought up Lehmann, because his family was insulted, so it is parallel to Zidane's incident. Jens Lehmann once said: "When you insult my family, that crosses a line." And Materazzi crossed that line when he insulted Zidane's family. I have an enormous amount of respect and admiration for both Zidane and Lehmann. Their reactions are not "out of line", they are just human reactions.

Well, i would have kicked him in his cheating italian balls. Zidane was not out of line. Even though he was in line with MatrASSi's breast. Was Marco Materazzi out of line when he pinched Zidane's nipple? If an ugly cheating Italian fag pinched ur nipple, wont u punch him?
P.S Karma! That's why Italian club Juve is being relegated. I know they aren't connected (juve and WC) but Juve sucks

absolutely. soccer is a physical sport, but agressive behavior that is not towards and end such as gaining posession or scoring a goal is never justified. Zinedine should have just ignored the guy at that moment and taken him out on the field with a slide tackle or something like that.

i think Materazzi aroused him and Zidane couldn't accept that his family be insulted by this so called footballplayer.it wasn't very civilized for neither of them...i admire Zidane because he apologized for the million of children who watched that match.but what did Materazzi did? nothing.he's a champion now,but Zidane is a legend.

Yep. Championship game. He was goaded and he did exactly what the Italians wanted him to.
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Which is exactly what he ended up doing.
You should hear what American athelites say to eachother. And people get the stuffing knocked out of them over it. In a legal play.

For the 5,000th time, YES. A captain can't do that in a championship game under any circumstances. What Mazeratti said is irrelevant. He let his emotions get the best of him.
