The nearest tube station to Tonbridge is probably Morden, at the very end of the Northern line. A mere 30 miles from Tonbridge!

Tonbridge is a long way outside of London, and the tube doesnt go anywhere near it. You will need to get the Piccadilly line from Heathrow into central London, and go to Charing Cross station where you can get an ordinary train to Tonbridge.

Most respondents haven't read your question properly, but unfortunately as Arcadia has said, your nearest underground station is going to be Morden. Yes, the sensible thing to do would be to get the main line train from Tonbridge up to Charing Cross and let your friend meet you there or anywhere along the way.
I note that most respondents miss the point that you're going to ARRIVE AT HEATHROW and are going to be picked up AFTER THAT.

Get a tube from heathrow to Hammersmith on the piccadilly line. Then get on the district line from Hammersmith to embankment. Walk up to charring cross station (2 min walk) get on an overland train from Charring cross to Tonbridge (40 mins on the train) - total journey approx 2 hours.

Get a tube map when you get to London. But I think it's Cockfosters. The tube goes out of the tunnels there and in to the open. It's not far from the M1.

There isn't a tube station that far out - you'll need to catch a train
