My twins were born at 34 wks and one came home 4lb 8 oz the other couldn't 4lb 1 oz. My son was born at 36 wks and was fine but he weighed 8 lbs. As far as the time frame goes she should be fine but 3 lbs is too small for that length of gestation, there may be other health issues involved. Talk with your doctor about any concerns you have. As for staying with her, NICU will let you stay with her as long as you want, but they don't give you a room. You would have to sleep somewhere else.

Good luck, I know how you feel.

babies can leave the hospital once they are 4 pounds and there is no other reason for the low birth weight. If you baby is not healthy then, the doctors will keep her in the NICU until they have treated her. Sometimes a baby will be diagnosed with failure to thrive due to the mother smoking or doing some type of drugs while pregnant. If none of this pertains to you and you baby is just small and healthy she can go home at 4 pounds and no earlier. You still have 4 more weeks so maybe she will gain some weight before coming out to join us in the world. Good luck and take care of yourself and your little one

If the baby is low birth weight she may be required to stay until she reaches a certain weight like 4 1/2 or 5 1/2 pounds. You should talk to your doctor about the requirments. Many hospitals send low birth weight babies to the NICU for closer observation and weight gain even if every thing else appears to be normal. Unless you have a medical problem that causes your doctor to feel you can not be released ( high blood preasure for example) you will be released on time. My 2nd child was in the NICU for 28 days I was released after 48 hours. While he was there a baby who was full term but weighed 3.5 pounds at birth came in and stayed about 2 weeks the mom was released after 48 hours and came to visit like the other moms. I wouldn't get too worried yet....babies can grow a lot in the last few weeks (1-3 pounds) and you still have 4 weeks until you reach your due date.

Depends on what you mean by "on-time"... are you asking if the baby will be discharged when you are? Probably not, but that is something you'll have to ask your ob/gyn and/or pediatrician. As for whether you'll be able to stay at the hospital with her, for that you should call or better yet, tour the hospital you can ask the staff all of your questions. You may find some nurses a little more willing to accommodate you then others. If they don't provide a room for you to stay in, you can try to set-up camp in a close by waiting room. If that is against hospital rules, just try to be very discreet and very sweet, they may give you a little leeway.

if baby's Dr (after s/he is born) tells that baby is underweight then they will not allow the baby to go home with u.

why do u wanna stay at hospital as they will not give u baby. they will keep the baby in the incubator or special room where no one except the hospital staff will be allowed to go. they will take care of all these types of babies in that special room. so no need to worry .

i know being a mother u will worry but it is good for ur baby to stay there till it gains proper weight.

although my baby was with normal weight i.e. 4 kg when born but they gave me after 4 days they said she is over weight n they have to do some tests like sugar test n all.

so that was really hard time for me.

good luck.

You need to talk to your caregiver. Also, have you chosen a pediatrician yet? Talk to the ped too.

At only 3 lbs, I am betting she'll stay in the NICU for a while unless she gains a ton in these last weeks of PG. You'll probably be released before her and have to go back and forth to the hospital.

Have you seen a dietician to see if your diet is OK? Have you tried to keep a journal of what you are eating? Maybe you can try to improve your nutrition these last few weeks to help your little one pack on some weight.

Are you having really bad morning sickness? Your doc can prescribe something to help so you can keep food down.

they have to atleast be 5 pounds and something before they let the baby come home. They have to keep the baby until it gains the wait. I think you are aloud to stay in the hopital with the baby at only sertain times though. I do not know if they will let you saty right with the baby 24/7 yet that is here!

My son was born at 37weeks underweight and was in hospital for 3 weeks. some hospitals have a family room so when mum gets discharged and baby is still in hospital the family can stay there for however many night baby needs them there.

go back to the hospital. i'm not effective what you recommend by technique of "contained in the bottom of commonplace, unruptured water", yet when you're nevertheless leaking fluid now, i ought to worry that your membrane's have certainly ruptured. in case your membrane's extremely were ruptured for 17 hours they could prefer to commence you on antibiotics to make effective that the baby would not get an infection.

She will probably be released on her due date if she meets minimum requirements for weight, breathing ability, and food comsumption. Your insurance won't let you stay if you are doing well. You can elect to stay, but few people have thousands of dollars to pay to stay at the hospital.
