No one is really sure. During some points in the X-men comics, Professor X began to theorize that Wolverine was getting more powerful each time he healed. Therefore, he has been able to heal himself steadily more as time progressed. Intially in the comics, he was only able to survive more than the average person and took some time to heal from stuff such as bruised ribs. Then he has steadily worked his way up, such as being able to survive a shotgun blast that took his face off. Finally, we are to the point where he can surivive full blast that rip his skin off. Professor X once said that he thought the only way to kill Wolverine would be to cut his head off, seperate it far from his body, and maybe set it on fire or something. No one knows if this would even work.
As for comment about not being able to chop admiantium, they have established that admaintium is the hardest, most dense metal on Earth. However, I do not know if they have ever established how it compares to Vibranium. Furthermore, it has to be possible to cut admanitum with admanitum, otherwise there would be no way to shape the metal and make it into useful items. Also, Admantium clearly has a melting point, as it was in liquid form when it entered Wolverine. Also, there are other means of severing heads that do not invovle chopping with a metal. I am sure some marvel characters could use some sort of energy blast or other method that could cut through the metal. Maybe the Beyonder or Galactus, I don't really care to theorize that far.
All of these methods are possible ways to sever Wolverine's head. There may be other ways to kill him, possible throwing him into the sun, which would probably totally melt him. I would also assume leaving him in space or underwater for a long long time, like a few months, would kill him, as he does need to breathe. Another method would be to take away his mutant power. There have been too many methods to count where mutants have lost their power through some device or instance, and without his healing factor, he could be killed a lot easier. As for pyshic attacks, these usually do not kill people, just make them brain dead, and it is pretty likely he can recover from that. I am sure there are a few other ways to kill him, but these would probably be the "easiest" methods to do it.
In response to Additional Comments by Asker:
Yea, okay. You made me go out and find the panels as I have yet to read this issue. I can now confirm that is the dummest thing I have ever seen. The fact that he healed from that quickly as well, and you are right, it clearly shows that his organs (one can assume his brain as well) is missing. Perhaps they will release a statement saying that some tiny part of his brain stem in the back of his skull survived, and he was able to regrow his entire body in the two minutes from that. However, I would answer that according to this latest issue, that there is no way for him to die that is feasible. Maybe still throwing him in the sun would work, but I am not so sure with the current writing/drawing of Marvel. But my guess is that within the next year or so, Wolverine will be retconned or something will happen to him that makes him not quite so powerful. Without deactivating his powers, I will still say throwing him in the Sun might be the only thing that would work.

This be my theory, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Other than throwing him into the sun, or something equally hot, then Wolverine with his adamantium would be difficult to do. I think only Magneto and Polaris could do that and all they need to do is rip out the metal (again)and then pull all of the iron out of his blood and some other nasty stuff at the molecular level. Iceman might be able to do it by freezing the adamantium itself until it shatters, but I don't think the comics ever gave it a frezzing temperature, if it has one. But other than these three, nobody can get him cause the metal protects his bones which make blood (the marrow). The healing factor is in his cells in the blood, the white blood cells. So unless you get past the metal and into the marrows itself, then Wolvie's gonna wake up and gut you. Without adamantium is easier. Hulk, Juggernaut, Colossus and the Thing could easily pound him till he died, although it would take a while. Severing his neck would probably slow him down a lot, but you'd have to keep severing body parts till his immune system couldn't take it anymore. Now that I think about it, Dr. Doom could probably kill him with or without the adamanitum. Now that would be an interesting battle. Okay, that's it. I have more thoughts on the subject, but I doubt anyone wants to read them.

Technically, yes, with the right people around at the right time.
For instance, the mutant Leech, who can nullify a mutants powers, would have to be in close range of Wolvie, severing his ability to heal himself. Magneto would be valuable, as we all know he has already relieved our shaggy friend from his metallic skeleton once before. After Wolvie is without healing abilities and his adamantium skeleton (though, by this point, he would probably be dead from the trauma of having all of his adamantium removed), we could go back to Nitro detonating himself yet again just to make sure old Logan wouldn't get back up again.
Theoretically, that sounds the most possible to me.

Yeah, there are several "alternate future" stories where Logan has died. In Marvel's "what If..." comics, he's died on the moon from lack of oxygen, and the Hulk killed him with repeted blows to the neck, knocking a vertebre out of place, severing his spine. He was killed in Exiles, as a member of the Timebroker's Weapon X team. In the Wolverine Origins storyline, ish #2 I believe, Silver Samurai ran him through with his sword, and Logan barely crawled away from that, passing out once he got to a cargo ship. Incidentally, he suffered the same kind of wound in an earlier Wolverine comic (the ish in which Lady Mariko dies), and is able to continue fighting with no real damage done. But cutting off his air supply would be enough to do it.
As for how strong is adamantium, Adamantium cannot cut itself, the only way to shape it is in it'sliquid form. And I believe it is stronger than vibranium, but vibranium's ability to absorb vibrations makes it able to stand up to a fair amount of punishment.

this would probably be a two step process.
step one (if adamantium is present, if not go to step two): remove the adamantium from wolverine's system leaving him more vulnerable.
step two: Xavier Protocol Code 0-2-1 (Wolverine) : Long range attack, sever the head, and place the head and body far apart.
considering professor X came up with this method, it seems the likeliest possibility.

Methinks Magneto almost did kill Logan in one of the Uncanny X-Men titles by leeching the adamantium off his bones. I seem to remember Logan about to go into the light before being called back by *surprise surprise* Jean Grey. But that gave him the will to live

Drowning. There is no physical damage to heal, and eventually his brain would shut down. I do remember in the "Wolverine" comic series that he was almost killed when knocked out and thrown into a river. Would he wake up if drowned? Not likely. Keep him down there long enough and he'll die. And when if he's dead long enough, his mutant healing should shut off.

in a recent issue, wolverine was shot with magnetized bullets. this caused his immune system to try and remove the foreign items from his blood but couldn't because they were connected to his adamantium skeleton. he proceeded to sicken under supervision of a doctor until S.H.E.I.L.D. sent in someone to remove the bullets. S.H.E.I.L.D designed the ordnance especially to kill wolverine.
