They only called him "Skipper" in my opinion, but the actor is Alan Hale Jr. Alan Hale Sr. was his father and he was one of MGM's popular actors back in the day of Movies being made like on an assembly line the 30's & 40's, if you worked for one of the 3 big studios, MGM, Warner Bros., or RKO Radio Pictures, which became Paramount Pictures, you were their property, especially at MGM, and Alan Hale Sr, (who was called "Alan Hale") was property of MGM. Alan Hale Jr. is the spittin' image of his father.
