Truth in advertising still exists, but it's gotta work for the company as well. So for example, on a box of cereal, you will see the proportionate number of marshmallows to flakes for an average box. Your box may wind up with fewer marshmallows, but it's still truthful since they are working with averages. Following this theory, perhaps you are going to a cheapskate Subway (since they are franchised and have different owners) and someone at another Subway is get monster subs with loads of toppings. They just need to display the average.
Also, food artists choose the very best pieces of lettuce, tomato, etc. All that has to be the same about yours is the quantity, not the quality.

So! they spend hours upon hours getting the sandwich to photograph just right. There are people who specialize in Food Presentation for all major eating Establishments. These commercials take sometimes days to get it just right. every drop of mustard has to be just so so in order for the photo to work for the clients. Do you think they have time to make any sandwich that way when you are standing there hungry? Get over it!
