I would guess it has to do with the fact that income tax returns are due on the 15th of April. The 14th would have significance because your deadline is within 24 hours. Many citizens of the United States (Americans can be anyone from the tip of South America to the top of Alaska) have very high anxiety on the 14th because their income tax returns are not completed or they haven't even started them I call it the tomorrow syndrome. Oh my god, it's due tomorrow!.

That's the day before income taxes are due, so everyone that hasn't sent in their returns yet are probably in panic mode to get it done on time.
