That is closing in on the age when other girls will start (11 would be the early side if you ask me). I started when I was 13, and I was one of the last girls in my school to shave, and did it on my own without telling anyone. Cut my legs up really bad, too, but all the girls in my gym class were teasing me because I hadn't shaved yet.

I'd sit down with her first and explain that shaving is something that once you start, you have to keep up on, and that at her age, she might want to start shaving, but it should be done in moderation- like only once every 2 weeks. She's young enough now that she shouldn't "regrow" leg hair very fast. The more often she shaves, the quicker it will seem to grow in.

I know my little sister was -just- past her 11th birthday, because she shaved for the first time for my wedding, which was a week after her birthday.

I guess my recommendation is to shave them once, and then have her just kind of moniter how fast it grows back. Get her a nice razor, and shaving cream that can be all hers. I learned off my step-mom's old plastic pink daisy razors and soap. Ouch!!

You could even make a fun outting by taking her to the store and letting her pick a razor and some of the nice scented Skintimate shave gel. Here's a hint- email SC Johnson through their website, tell them how much you enjoy the skintimate products, and you'll get a coupon for a free can of it. ;)

There's no reason she shouldn't, and if the hair is bothering her then show her the proper way so she doesn't cut herself with a razor...but also let her know the hair will grow back more coarsely and it will be something she'll need to do regularly to keep the hair at bay.

I had VERY hairy legs before I began shaving, and the hair was dark and visible...I don't remember what age I first shaved but it was likely around her age (11 or 12 or so).

I don't believe that it will hurt her as long as she's careful with the razor. I would definitely help her the first time or two to make sure that she understands she must be careful around her knees, ankles, and shin.

I was 13 when I started shaving and probably didn't need to. Are they just hairy or dark and hairy and noticeable from a distance?

Guess it's a parent's call.

personally i started shaving my legs when i was 11 because my legs were really hairy and my mom guided me through the whole thing ,and first showing me how to on her legs. And if you chose to let her , give her a single bladed razor . i used the double blade razor and cut my knee and didnt want to shave for a long time . but finally got the hang of it and now live hair free! lol

I would not advise using any hair cream removers because they are filled with chemicals. Hairy legs are embarrassing for girls at school. All the pretty, popular girls do not have hairy legs.
Get her a good safe razor made for women.

YES YES YES! My mother made me wait until a certain age, and when I went to summer camp all the girls laughed and made fun of me. As you can see it is something that I still have not forgotten. My daughter is 10 and she is shaving, as are most of the girls in her classes.

I think its ok. Just guide her the first few times and make sure she knows how sharp the razor is. She will feel better about herself and not have to suffer any ridicule at school.

Yes. Just teach her properly with a razor or buy an electric shaver made for women.
