Im from Ohio. Here it is legal but looked down upon and I would guess its the same in any of the states. Wild rabbits can be very hard to take care of, especially young ones. They have extra needscompared to a domestic rabbit that make them just better off in their own enviorment. If I understand your question right, you can always call your local game warden or another form of animal specialiist and ask them.

It's for your protection and that of the animal also. Wild animals are just that...wild and unpredictable. They often carry diseases and can bite with no warning. I think it might also have something to do with it being a "game" animal, one that there is a hunting season for. I know it is also illegal to keep a deer ( game" animal) in Texas (I live in Texas also-San Angelo) and any endangered species.
