Know the subject you are talking about inside and out.. that way if you get lost for a second or two you won't get flustered.

Be prepared.
Tell them what you are about to say with a little story or surprise beginning.
Tell them your key points and why you believe this way.
Tell them the other side of the issue
Tell why that side of the issue is wrong and why you believe that way.
Summarize what you said and ask for a call to action, what you want your audience to do.
Keep your eyes on the audience the whole time. Find friendly faces that are looking at you, too.
Finally, thank them for listening and ask if they have any questions.

I find it helps to imagine that you are addressing a group of friends or relatives. After all, strangers are just friends you haven't been introduced to.

It is very important to have a chairman or announcer to start with, "here is John Doe, from MIT. As an expert in systems, I am sure you will all want to hear what he says". And to finish, it helps you close, "Thankyou, John, for a most interesting presentation...etc".

Look at the tops of their heads not their faces. Avoid bald men. The glare of the tops of their head might be distracting.

Don't have too many notes.
Look at people and smile at them. When they smile back, they will enjoy listening to you and you'll start to feel confident!
Enjoy yourself!
