O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Only familiar with the first verse.

When it's butchered by a wannabe singer putting his/her own spin on it, I get pissed.

When it's done right... not sure there is a way to describe how it feels. Chills up the spine, rapid heartbeat, pride, still brings tears to the eyes.

Yes, even Republicans have feelings.

I've never heard the whole thing before. I knew there were more verses, but I didn't know how many. But, I guess it makes me have mixed feelings. I'm proud of the men that fought and gained my freedom for me. But, at the same time, I'm saddened by the fact that so many people had to die so that I could do as I please. I would give up my freedom if we could get back the lives that have been lost in stupid wars.

And yes, texandc2002, those are the correct words to the entire song. Most people don't know it all. I didn't before, although I knew there were more, I didn't know what they were. I checked them out the be sure they were all right, and they are.

Makes me think of my people (family members) who faught in the Revolutionary War in the birth of our country. It makes me proud of how my family members were fighting for the freedom of our country. It has real, true and honest meaning and feelings and love for me knowing that since I traced my family tree I have found many family members who faught in that war. So it has a deep rooted meaning for me. God Bless Our country!

Umm....it's great but I don't think it is true. The United States is the land of hypocrites, liers and thieves.

Well, the SSB brings tears to my eyes when I hear it sung sometimes.

Just patriotic in general though and proud.
