Be honest, do you think feminism has made situations more difficult for men? I have come accross many women who are intelligent, strong and out spoken but show no respect to men yet, the men are very respectful towards the woman's beliefs. Is this fair to men?

I saw a book in Books a Million the other day with a title something like, "Boys smell bad. Throw rocks at them." I was horrified. As the mother of two sons, I can't believe things have gone that far that a book like that could make it on the shelf. I have raised my boys to be men enough that they won't put up with mistreatment from a woman and my daughter to respect men.

Feminism is about women wanting to be respected, treated as equals, and given equal opportunities based on their capabilities. This should have always been the case and any man who has a problem with or feels threatened by this has a problem.

Being feministic does not mean that a woman can not be pretty, sexy, or a mother and home maker. In fact, feminism has allowed women to be much more sexy, much better mothers, much better wives, and much better homemakers than they were 40 years ago. Feminism means that a woman gets to choose to do whatever she wants, climb the corporate ladder, be a homemaker, whatever, and will not be treated like a door mat while she is doing it. No intelligent man wants to be married to a door mat and no intelligent man will say that women have not made significant contributions in business.

The situation is very similar to the current attitude towards Muslims. True Muslims are God fearing, gentle, polite, and respectful of mankind. Unfortunately, the media, in an attempt to sell their ad spots, reports on the radicals who cause a ruckus. Just as Islamic radicals and the press have painted a bad picture of Muslims, feminist radicals have given feminism a bad name and also are the worst violators when it comes to looking down on women who choose something to do other than what they think they should do.

Just as the Muslim faith has done mostly good things, feminism has allowed women to make mostly good contributions to all of mankind. If the word mankind insults you, then you have a problem.

The idea of equity among men and women is beautiful and beneficial to both men and women. Wheather conservative or liberal, most believe men and women must work together for the benefit of the family and society. Even if they do not agree on gender roles.

The hindering factor is the double standard. It has become politically correct to honour the views, advice, and opinions of women, and considered oppression, (or flurting with it) to listen to or respect the views, advice, and opinions of a man. Even if he is the father, husband, brother, or son. This has left many men without companionship and fellowship. Men are only desired for materialistic desires. Used to pay the bills and fight wars. A man's rightful role as husband, father, and man of the house has been belittled and neglected. The fact that children are the man's seed, (as much as the woman's) has been underminded.

Ironically, this has hurt women all the greater. Feminism has, in effect, pushed the father, husband, brother, and son away from the family. It has taught men that their voice and effort is not appreciated. It has convinced men that they are only desired in the workforce, army, and sexual relationships. This has only increased the amount of single parent families, abandoned pregnant women, and fatherless children.

The true question then becomes, "Who has feminism hurt more, men or women, or children?"

This is a very interesting question. I don't feel that feminism has been bad for me, but I have never regarded women as anything but my equal. I know men who sneer at feminism and those who are worried by it.

Men are men and women are women, we have biological and sociocultural differences, but why should feminism frighten anyone?

Personally I find positive women a huge turn on :)

There are times when I am not impressed. However, I truly believe in a womans right to be equal, even if it is not convenient for me. I may not like a particular womans attitude toward me, but over all I feel it is good for men as well.

Any extreme ideology can do damage. Even if feminism started out not to disadvantage the men, some attitudes did suggest otherwise.

I am glad to know some men hold on to their cool and not reacting. Bless them.

feminism is bad when people missunderstand its purposes. it's supposed to be about equal rights for women. But there are people (and unfortunately women) who take it to new "heights": junk like not shaving your legs and not wearing a bra, or trying to modify language conventions, or trying to shut men out of your life for good. That's nonsense!
I think we have to learn to be feminine rather than feminist, because we can get what we want and be independent, intelligent and out-spoken without forgetting that we are women. I can honestly say that I am able to enjoy a man's company without ignoring my priciples.
And don't worry! If life isn't fair to men, I don't know who it's fair to.

Only for the ones who lost their slave, er, I mean housewife.

Well, also for the ones who think a woman's only duty is to have babies.

And, yes, for the ones who have been "beaten by a girl" at work because she handled an assignment better or faster.

Feminism has been great for the guys who are now able to pursue nursing, secretarial work, and other jobs that were closed off to them 40 years ago.

And, it has been absolutely wonderful for kids, who now get to spend time with both parents instead of just their moms.
