Research is going on to find a solution to replace the oil, but the chance to displace oil in the next 20years is almost impossible. But every effort to displace the oil should be encouraged, nuclear energy is a good source but dont know how successful it is. Anyway the important thing is the survival of humanity without oil, we can only pray at this moment and can hope for a better future without depending on oil.

Nobody knows of an energy source that could replace all the oil now being used. There are many small scale sources, like bio diesel, that can supply a tiny fraction of the world oil demand, but the amount of oil we are using is so gigantic that I don't see how we can replace it all in such a short time as 20 years. If there were anything that would really work, somebody would be getting rich doing it right now.

It may seem out of bouds but have you ever wondered "Why The governments are trying to hide the idea of UFO's existence?"
It makes sense.
(if the really exist) outer space intelligent creatures must have developed superior unending powerful energy resource that they use to travel galaxies.
If the humans got the information about it and developed such resource, U can bet that oil industry will be out of business within a day.
Each Government is trying to develop it for themselves as it can mark them as superpowers.
Coming back to the point, Do U really think it will take 20 long years if we found this type of energy now?
Also, If we can utilize the abundant solar energy in more efficient way as we use oil, i dont think we will need more energy.

Yes I do believe that in next 20 years oil would be displaced for other kind of energy.
The other energy in my opinion are
1. Electric energy to run cars .
2. energy from hydrogen which we can extract from ocean
3. Solar Energy
4.Use of CNG
5. Radioactive sources

Wind & solar could make a huge dent in our energy demand, but as long as our politicians keep getting bribed by the oil industry, it won;t happen. Our entire energy policy is created by the very companies who should be going out of business.

Perhaps in the next 20 years the world will end from our atomic missiles.
Perhaps we don't have to replace oil and we can start living again like we did in the 1700s.
But the answer is yes, I think we are going to loose our oil.

Oil will still lead and will be used widely. Ethanol is beginning to be used in Brazil and other countries in cars , but you cannot use those for air-planes and ships. So until you find some alternate fuel that could power ships, and air-planes. Oil will still lead as the most used fuel.

some of your statement makes sence, but most of it is a nasty, upity and entitlest attitude.
the world will not fly off it's axis when we run out of oil, they will figure something out. in the meantime, don't believe everything you hear from the government, or 'indepent' companies, it all comes down to the all mighty dollar and people are going to report what benifits them the best

I'd say hydrogen power is coming, but it won't totally replace oil for at least 40-50 years.
