i hate that smell! its horrible and damp

guess what it depends on where u live and what u live around. yes dampness on some things n your environment can cause a horrible smell from the rain garbage, for example when i first moved 2 another city i wrote home and told every1 it stinks when it rains here, but if u r n a rural, country setting the smell is quite pleasant.,just think u have more grass, trees getting wet than streets with oil etc.

I dont know in the spring it smells of clean but it can smell horrible especially when it is non-stop! Something else does anybody remember acid rain, what happened to that?! A Bird Flu of the late 80/early 90's? In fact that my next question..cheers for the inspiration!

Interesting. I suppose in a country where it rains a lot it gets old after a while. I life in SA and at the moment it is winter. Winter=no rain. Hasn't rained in 3-4months. LOVE the smell of the first summer rains!!!

I love the smell and there's even a word for it - Petrichor!
It refers to the sweet smell given off by vegetation when it rains for the first time after a long dry period. It was coined by a couple of scientists in the US. I based a love song on that concept/ word and it's on my album - see http://www.masterofnone.org.uk for more details.

i love the smell of summer rain, when it is all dusty outside and then it starts raining, it is fresh and makes breathing easier and it's just nice it just makes you want to jump around and feel like a child, in winter i hate it, everything, the feeling, the cold and also the smell as it all just smells like wet clothing....

Oh I love it, but only when it has rained really hard like a couple of weeks ago. Everything smelled really fresh.

I love the smell when it rains. Its soothing, makes me just want to lye in front of a window and read a good book.

it depends on how hot the day is when it rains or how hot it is after the rain because if it gets really hot and then rains the air smells like dead fish from the river and then you literally have to hold your breath so you don't get sick.
