I was thinking about this just yesterday. When Clinton won his first term, the machine was already going strong, attacking his character and credibility, because they saw him as an extreme threat. They had the power and the money and the huge corporations backing them, and didn't want Clinton's politics for the common person to take hold, as they knew the message was enticing and accessible to the common people. But they knew there was no way to counter that, so instead they attacked his personality and character before he even entered office. And it worked. They absolutely destroyed him to the point of impeachment. And thus you end up with hardworking, blue-collar people voting for a party that does nothing for them whatsoever, one that only supports the rich and corporations, as thsee voters absolutely believe this party will somehow do something for them. That's the short answer. (Oh yes, and if all else fails, add in some religion: God wants you to vote for their party. That's fool-proof because who wants to burn in hell for voting against God? That message has worked for ages.)

Right. And of course no liberal EVER attacks a Republican who wins an election. Take the blinders off, dude - there's plenty of crap on both sides of the aisle.
As for the tax return thing, I think that was to point out the left-wing hypocrisy of the Kerrys, calling for tax increases on the upper class when they don't pay their fair share themselves.

All of those terribly open minded, tolerant statesmen that you list do nothing but talk issues and have a great range of ideas and want nothing more than to see their country succeed at all cost... Yeah right - do you know why you see "attacks" against those people - because they have a track record of hypocrisy, criminal behavior and lunacy, and by pointing these things out exposes them for what they are - political hacks who care about nothing but getting their hands on power.
david c, I know that you feel so bad for all those nice liberal loonies that you list, and that's why you have been so free of personal attacks on conservatives, especially our President.
Who are you to whine about personal attacks - that's all you've done on Yahoo Answers for as long as you have been around - bring up piles of misinformation and lies about the President - aren't those personal attacks? "Hello - Pot? This is the Kettle, you're black!" What a lame hypocrite you are - oh sorry for the redundancy - you're a liberal, you can't help it.

Because this is POLITICS. It's all a part of the game. I am young, but I bet that years ago, the same bashing was going on to the Democrats AND Republicans. Go through the list of questions on Yahoo! Answers, and I bet you will see a bit more conservative bashing instead of liberal bashing.

They're definitely haters. It's a carryover from the impotent rage they had when the Democrats controlled Congress for years (and things were better, by the way). All they could do was snipe. It became a habit. They've convinced themselves that Democrats are evil, and that only THEY can run this country. Well, they've had their chance, and they've failed miserably. They're stupid Fascists!

What goes around comes around. Its called politics, one side attacks the other, neither stands for anything except being against what the other side is for.

The Republicans support indefensible policies, and since they can't defend their own policies, they have to resort to personal attacks against their enemies.
