This has been going on for several days. How can I get this to reset back to normal

Are you saying there are not two messages in your inbox?
Is this a Yahoo account? Or are you using Outlook or Messenger or Netscape, what?
The two messages may be in the Bulk Mail folder.

It probably means 2 messages that you have not opened yet. Depends which email client you use. Perhaps there is a filter to just look at new messages? then you won't have to hunt them down.

that happens tome sometimes after ive opened all my mail it will still register that i have mail i dont know why though i guess just a lag in the puter anyway i found restartin the puter also resets that number

try deleting your cookies
and
use disk cleanup
