Poor People need to get off there but and get a job. If not 1 then 2. There is no reason for people to be poor, there are thousands of jobs out there. They are just to lazy to work for a living. If I can work 2 to 3 jobs so can they. And please don't blame Bush when you answer. I am tired of giving money to them!

I, too, am tired of giving money to people who don't want to work, single mothers on welfare, etc. I sure as hell didn't deal that hand to them.
Every last one of them had an opportunity to go to high school, or get their GED later on, or go to tech/trade school. There are a lot of "Help Wanted" ads in the newspaper, and signs in the windows of businesses "Now Hiring".
I have an idea. It's based on what every President during my lifetime has said many times: The people of this nation are the most generous of any in the history of this planet.
Therefore: get the government out of the welfare business. Stop giving our tax dollars away. The overhead, the graft, and the corruption just adds to the cost, especially when these greedy two-bit little bureaucrats get their grubby mitts on our money.
Let the private sector take over. All of us will get a bigger bang for the buck. Remember what our Presidents have said.

You don't have a clue thinking that this issue is black and white. Blame the victim he is lazy is not the answer. Lack of opportunity, education, mental illness, health problems, getting laid off or fired can all be causes to be poor.

Have you heard of the working poor? That is when people work two and three jobs just to try to make ends meet. The middle class is only a couple of paychecks away from this.

If you really care about this issue you need to get close to the problem instead of putting blame on the victim.

My guess is that you have never been poor. If you had, you would have a bit more compassion. It's easy to look for a job if you don't live in a depressed area, you have a reliable means of transportation, and you have someone to babysit the kids. If you don't have any of those things, though, it's kind of hard to find a job. By the way, I'm sick of my hard-earned tax money going to the big businesses in the form of corporate welfare!

So true.

But wait! I live in a depressed economy area. My little city has more people moving here every day. The local mill, the main source of industry here, shut down 10 years ago. Hundreds were out of work. There isn't any other industry here to support them. What can they do. They all had a job, and it was gone!

Remember, there will always be people who want to work but can't find a job. Then there are people who don't want to work and have the government pay for them. I believe if there were no Welfare system,(or at least a limited one) than there would be more people needing to work, so industry would expand.

LOL.. You arent asking a question, you are grandstanding and making a genrealzation. My guess is, you have know idea what it is to be "poor". Im not bashing Bush btw, I voted for him and would do so again. But I find this idea that you have to be typical of narrowminded and judgemental people.

Yes, some "poor people" are lazy, but not all. Some are even mentally ill, this goes as another strike to your ignorance.

By the way, in our area, we used to have sevaral factories, including Bayliner boats. People were laid off because of outsourcing jobs, a DIRECT result of Congressional inability, and unwillingness to take action to stop it. Being that congress is Republican controlled, who do you suggest we blame if not Bush?

There are so many issues that go into poverty, you have no idea. Most poor people do work two or three jobs to try and support their families. Not all poor people are lazy and it is ignorant of you to insinuate such things when you have no idea. Many times, poor people do not have the skills/education to get the jobs that pay decent money and they don't have the money to get the education. So look around, look it up and stop being ignorant.

there are other factors to being poor then no thaving a job. many people work hard, but still cant make enough to put enough food on the table for their kids. not everyone is given the same opportunities to succeed. people always point out stories of people that came from tough circumstances to succeed, but that is the exception, not the rule.

first of all how are you giving money to the poor? second of all people arent going to hire you if you dont have a permanent residence, or dont have a high school education, or speak english, which if you are really "poor" i imagine you wouldnt have. you are over simplifing things way to much, and calling them lazy was b.s.

If you could, would you hire a poor person to work for you?

Probably not.

You sound like you'd rather sit in the problem than sit in the solution.
