Well, it's hard to keep worshipping someone who's constantly trying to smite you from the heavens with lightning. If lightning struck more than once at the same church, it would question a lot of people's faith in God

Maybe they are doing it out of respect for the cross--they don't want to singe the cross...

...but with that big ol' metal bell on top of the church to attract the current, I don't know if the lightning rod does any good!

The Lord helps those who help themselves. I wouldn't annoy Him by daring a lightning strike. At least the rod shows you care enough to provide protection. Not to mention, the insurance company may not cover "acts of God".

Actually it shows common sense. With the price of insurance, why wouldn't someone put a lighting rod on top of their building. Your knowledge of faith is limited.

No. God gives you the wisdom to have a lightning rod on top of your building. God gives you the finances to afford a lightning rod on top of your building. God doesn't always (in fact rarely) give us divine intervention to keep us from harms way. He does give us the tools to take care of ourselves.

Besides, God never said He would keep us from being killed, that's why I don't understand why people get mad at God when their loved one's die. God doesn't think of dying as bad, when He knows that there is life after death.

No, just because you have faith doesn't mean you should stop protecting yourself. God works with us, not for us. If you don't protect yourself and ask God to do everything then you're just taking advantage of him. You have to put in some effort in your life too. You do the things in your life that you can do and leave the big things that man can't handle to God. That's where faith comes in.

no, the bible says not to test god, so "testing" him not to strike the church would be against the bible. bad things happen to people all the time. churches get struck by lightning, and those people don't all lose faith...

Smart people follow the principle that you trust in God, but still lock your doors. Should religious people also go naked believing they won't get a sunburn? Should they walk accross a busy intersection hoping they won't get hit?

No, I don't think so. Faith and common sense don't exclude each other.

God never promised he'll guard the churches.
