They can put you to sleep as far as I know. Otherwise you would get the epidural.

You should discuss this with your doctor.

I have had 3 c-sections and am pregnant with my 4th child, due in January. With my first 2 I had epidurals, with my 3rd I had a spinal. Even though the spinal is a shot in the spine it was relatively painless and it's just a shot, not an IV like the epidural. So maybe that would be something to consider. I had absolutely no side effects and was up the next morning in the shower (the c-section was 10:00pm).

And for the person who said you can't have a vaginal birth after 2 c-sections, they are COMPLETELY incorrect. It has been determined that you are at no greater risk of complications trying a VBAC after one c-section than three or more. Even said, that doesn't mean that VBAC is for everyone. I for one can not have a vaginal delivery as my body always fails to progress and I have a strange cervix that works like a rubber band, pulling the baby back in after I stop pushing so I never got anywhere. I tried to have natural births with my first two but couldn't and my OB told me that some women just can't have regular vaginal deliveries.

Best of luck!

They can do general anesthesia & take you completely under. This does have side effects which can be really unpleasant, vomiting, disorientation, not to mention you wont' be awake when the baby is delivered.
Epidural was one of the things I dreaded most but I was glad to find it wasn't as awful as I anticipated. What did you do for the other 2?
For sure, tho, they won't deliver you by c-section without some form of anesthetics; you couldn't stand it.
Good luck - I say go for the epidural - a few mins of pain & it's over. If you get a top-notch anesthetist you won't even have the few mins of pain - they numb the area first.

I just had my second c/s this March. I was given a choice of being knocked out or a epidural. As much as I hated to have a epidural I didn't want to be put to sleep and wake up and have someone hand me my baby well after the fact.

They aren't going to put you to sleep because you don't want a needle in your back. Too many complications to putting you to sleep. Unforunately, you have no other choice.

By the way to the idiot who said to give birth through the vagina. You can't do that after having two C-Sections. They are allowing it now after having one, but the third one isn't a choice. Ignorant people.

Don't be scared, I have had two of them, at least you're scheduled, I had mine right in the middle of having contractions. You are going to want to be alert for the birth of your child. Just lean on your husband or a nurse and grin and bear it, it will only take a moment.

I had a spinal block, but it is a needle stuck in the same place. I think you are out of luck unless they just knock you out completely.

I am a man but my wife has just had her third, she did a spinal tap if I'm not mistaken for the last two.

Good luck.

If it is an emergency c-section they can put you to sleep.

I understand that all women cannot have their children naturally.
