Marine Boy was one of the first anim cartoons shown in the U.S., in the 1960s and later in Australia and the United Kingdom. It was about the undersea adventures of a boy who was able to breathe under water by chewing a special chewing gum called "oxy-gum". He was powered underwater by his booster boots and armed with a special boomerang. Marine Boy's father was part of the Ocean Patrol, an organisation set up to maintain peace and security in Earth's oceans. Adventures often featured the Ocean Patrol craft P1, a submarine crewed by Piper and Bolton (a double act), who would assist Marine Boy. Other regular characters in the show also included Neptina (a mermaid), Splasher (a dolphin) and Professor Fumble, the Ocean Patrol's absent-minded scientist.

"It's Marine Boy,
Brave and Free!
Fighting evil 'neath the sea.
He is a boy, a very special boy
Powered by propeller shoes, flying Sub ahoy!
Whooshing through the water on a friendly dolphin's back
Racing to the rescue of victims of attack.
In a flash, he'll foil the foe
With a quick boomerang throw!
Loyal friend of the sea to the end
Is our Marine Boy."

How's that?

It was one of those hilarious Japanese cartoon series where the dubbing was done by hyperactive kids with no real talent for spoken English, so every sentence ended with AHAAAA! or AAAAHH! in order to try to make it fit the lip movements. See also 'Space Ace' ("Galaxeeeeeeeeee!!!!"), Gigantor, and b*ll*cks knows how many others.

I loved it as a kid. Thought it was light years ahead of silly, soapy "Speed Racer."
