okay maybe i'm just a twisted little girl! but can you tell me how the government can make something that so simple so complacated? our voting system is so complicated that i think it's a joke! We have the smarts to count everyones vote!! you know the computers!!! umm well why doesn't that apply when we vote! we can keep it simple and just vote for who we wan't! Why do we have to vote for a group of people and then they vote! or why do they just grab a hand full of ballets and say that is the score of the state! when people make things more complex it shows that they are hiding something when it can be as simple as 123... Why is this happing?
Why are the people of United States not doing anything to stop this! or do you think they are too brainwashed?

By no means am I personally attacking anyone person here i accept the same in return! Thanks

I agree with you 100%. It's the same with our tax laws.

I feel that it's just another level of unnecessary government which can be eliminated. You can currupt a small group but not an entire nation. Let's go with the popular vote.

Hey there...without diving into too much detail and definitely without attacking either...

When I was in school we talked a whole lot about the Electoral College. The founders felt that they needed to protect us (meaning Americans) from being overpowered by majorities from other locations with higher populations. To compare it for you, let's look at the 2000 election...and I don't want to get into the Bush stole the election stuff here...

The majority of Gore voters came from 2 regions of the nation: Northwest (CA, OR, WA) and the Northeast (NY, NH, CN, etc.) The rest of the country voted for Bush. If the election were decided by the popular vote, the control of our country would be solely in the hands of those two regions and the rest of us would have no say in the election.

Did that make sense? I hope so.

A partial answer, in simple terms, is that the electoral college system of voting was put in place by American statesmen years ago so that a majority popular vote in New York, for instance, would not have an excessive and unfair effect on the people of Montana. Still seems reasonable to me today.

Look at the recent Mexican vote where there was a tie. That SHOULDNT happen here with the electoral college (ignore the 2000 election as a fluke i guess).
