less popular, no...but people have gotten the tribal "armband" or the anklet or the "tramp stamp" on the lower back. People don't put enought though into getting permanantly inked. They think "ohh that looks cool, I bet chicks would dig it" or "ohhh that butterfly with a tribal thing would look SOOOOO awesome on my lower back" sheesh, when are people going to realize that getting ink is a permanent reflection of your convictions and occurances in our lives, they need to be much deeper than the "fad" of tattoos. I for one have one whole arm dedicated to "tribal" design, which is actually western and indoneasian in theme and my other arm is an underwater mural...as well as about 75% of the rest of my body...but it's all about how you feel...if you want to get tribal then by all means do it...but don't do it cause you think it's cool....unless of course you want to give us tattoo artists your cash!! :D

I think they've become more popular because the technology used to tattoo has been rising, to where tattoos done today look a lot better than those that were done 20 or 30 years ago. Also, more people are being less close minded about it (with the exception of people like 'masquerade' down there). As to its status as an art from, its just as much an art form as painting or drawing.

I think it's personal for most people. Granted, you will always have some who are getting this design or that design just because it is a fad. So in that sense, yes, perhaps they are loosing popularity. The big thing these days, I suppose, are the Asiatic language characters - I would call that a fad, because many people who get them have no connection to that culture, they just want it because it's 'cool'. On tribal art - I just got my first tattoo a week and a half ago - I got a beautiful celtic continuity knot that turned out perfectly. But I got it for me. I have been wanting it for years now, as a representation of my cultural heritage and the things I feel close to in life. And I got it in a place that I can choose to display or not display - because I didn't get it for the world, I got it for me and what it represents to me and reminds me of. So for people like me - that have a connection to the design that they are getting, I think they will remain constant as a design choice. But as a fad? I think they are decreasing, yes.

I think it's all about what you like. Tattoos are a form of self expression. With tattoos it's not whats in, it's who you are and what you like.

I think over time everyone has gotten one and it becomes not as cool because everyone has one.. it's like a popular song that the raido station plays over and over and over again.. we liked it the first week but after you hear again and again and see everyone playing it, it doesn't seem as appealing
