The Republican Party has several uncomfortable resemblances to Fascism. To wit:

-- An exaggerated Patriotism, aggressive Nationalism, conceit that they alone represent the nation.

-- Paranoid sense of pervasive threat to National Security.

-- Overemphasis on the Military.

-- Cozy relationship with corporations: cronyism and sweetheart deals.

-- Use of scapegoat to rally support (Here, Liberals)

-- Anti-intellectualism; opposition to "decadence" in popular culture.

-- Flattering "the common man" for their "traditional values"; expectation of conformity.

-- Manipulation or control of the media.

-- Declaring all dissent to be unpatriotic.

-- Craving one-party rule, to the extent of rigging elections.

Any of this sound familiar?

In the spirit of Truth in Advertising, shouldn't the Republican Party rename itself the American Fascist Party?

You are right....
patriotism is bad....how awful to have it....
just because you may be paranoid does not mean they are not after you
Military to protect the people, large military is good for the peace at home....we are not near big enough in this category
Corporations? Yes, make enemies of those that make the money....not right, but stupid to do
Liberals use the blame of conservatives much more often than the conservatives
I am lost completely with the decadence thing....
Common man? yeah, lets ignore 98% of the people in the nation, that would be smart....
Not trying to control media...trying to keep secrets secret....so we can fight a war and win quicker...
Unpatriotic? mostly said by the party members...the "common man", not the parties as much
No elections have been rigged....read the factual info...not the internet, which is known and the outlet for the most misinformation...but sides of the aisle
Yes, it does sound familiar....from the Liberals....but it happens on both sides....want the truth...try to get info somewhere other than the internet...and from at least 2-3 sources....not from liberal or conservative....you might find the hatred you show is not worth your time and trouble

The original fascist (fascismo) movement ruled Italy from 1922 to 1943 under the leadership of Benito Mussolini. In time, the generic term fascism came to cover a class of authoritarian political ideologies, parties, and political systems, most notably Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler but also Hungary's Arrow Cross Party, Romania's Iron Guard, Spain's Falange and the French political movements led by former socialists Marcel Déat and Jacques Doriot and others.

GEE, SOUNDS MORE LIKE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY which would prefer a socialist government. Every statement that you have made here has resembled the democrats movement, with the exception of Military focus... and that's because the Republicans WANT TO BE ABLE TO DEFEND THIS COUNTRY, not sell it out like Clinton did. Republicans prefer Morality instead of Immorality, as the democrats prefer to take Christianity out of the equation in this country. This Country was founded on Christianity and the Freedom of Religion.

Do your homework before pretending to know what it's all about. Or do you really want the US to be a Socialist Country?

It can be argued that the Democratic party also resembles Fascism. Democrats, too, promote what they call Patriotism and Nationalism. Democrats also sense a pervasive threat to National Security. The NSA became what it is under Clinton, not Bush. I can go and relate all the above descriptors to Democrats, and indeed just about any other political party or group interest. It all comes down to what you believe and how you express those beliefs. The author of the question might believe that Bush is another Hitler, and I'm going to respect that. I don't agree with it, but I can respect it.

As soon as the Democrats admit they are communist. Please, your arguement is shallow; not to mention that half of the above statements reflect the views of the DNC.

Cozy relationship with corporations: cronyism and sweetheart deals.====DNC calls them special interest groups

-- Use of scapegoat to rally support (Here, Liberals) ==DNC's Bush

-- Anti-intellectualism; opposition to "decadence" in popular culture. =====a liberal agenda

-- Flattering "the common man" for their "traditional values"; expectation of conformity.====DNC's lie "we are for the working man

-- Manipulation or control of the media.====Disney, Turner, Murdock all liberals

-- Declaring all dissent to be unpatriotic.===If you are not liberal you are a Nazi

-- Craving one-party rule, to the extent of rigging elections====gerrymeandering to create democratic strong holds

Please ask an unbiased question next time.

Don't think that plenty of people haven't seen the similarities in the US today with Germany in the 30s. Thank goodness that W is not the powerful orator that Hitler was. Did Hitler think he was going to be greeted as a liberator by the Poles?

The part that really irks me though is how the right has managed to appeal to the working class voters while pursuing economic policies that are contrary to their interests, merely giving lip service to so-called cultural issues. I'm amused by the fact that low-income workers accept that if their taxes are cut by $10 while the billionaires' taxes are cut by millions/billion while the deficit grows that they are actually better off.

Isn't it time the Democrats ADMIT it's the Communist Party?

-- All business is evil, so must be run by government for the good of all people.

-- All rich people are evil, (except democrat party leaders), and must have their property forcibly confiscated.

-- All healthcare decisions, including who lives and who dies, must be made by the government for the good of all.

-- Religion is bad and must be banned.

-- If you disagree with the government ruling your life in every way, you will be thrown in jail.

-- Party members are exempt from all laws and morality.

Any of this sound familiar? Sounds just like communist Soviet Union.

Unlike the retard that asked this question, I don't actually believe this. I'm just trying to make a point. Both sides have the potential to take things to extremes that would be very bad for us all.

Word History:
It is fitting that the name of an authoritarian political movement like Fascism, founded in 1919 by Benito Mussolini, should come from the name of a symbol of authority. The Italian name of the movement, fascismo, is derived from fascio, “bundle, (political) group,” but also refers to the movement's emblem, the fasces, a bundle of rods bound around a projecting axe-head that was carried before an ancient Roman magistrate by an attendant as a symbol of authority and power. The name of Mussolini's group of revolutionaries was soon used for similar nationalistic movements in other countries that sought to gain power through violence and ruthlessness, such as National Socialism.

Even if all of this is true, which I would not concede, but if it were, it still doesn't make America Fascist. Most, if not all, of the above traits are also in common with soviet russia. Were they fascist?
Quite the contrary.
But I'm not going to defend the Republican party either.
I think extremist is a more fitting description, but they are definitely not fascist.

Mussolini died long ago, but leftradder neocommie godless liberals won't let go of the fascist thing. One good thought--when our government falls to the liberals, the Muslims will take over, and the godless ones will be the first to go.
