My little brother, turning 6 this year, is as interested in dinosaurs as I was at his age. He has more dinosaur toys than he knows what to do with, so I was thinking that for his birthday I would like to start him off with a collection that he could continue...I would very much like an informational collection so that he can learn about each dinosaur as he collects it. I appreciate any help you can give me!

I would also like this collection to be complete...so he can learn about the dinosaurs other than T-Rex...he is very bright and loves to read...imagine that a 6 year old that loves to learn!

Buy him real fossils instead of toys. Ammonites and trilobites are cheap (sometimes $1 each!) and, if you have some extra cash, you can buy a small piece of dinosaur bone for $20 or so. I have a piece of a triceratops in my drawer along with fossilised whale bone and ammonites. I feel that the real deal beats transient plastic models anyday.

Well I think what you should look into is getting him one of those build your own dinosaurs. You know the wooden sets where you pop out the bones and put it together and they look like a dinosaur skeleton.
When I was a kid, I had lots of those, they are really cool, and talk about educational, you can learn many different internal structures, and how and way some dinos had the body shapes that they did. Plus, nothing beats the satisfaction of building something yourself. I loved them personally as a kid, I had about a dozen of them, really cool stuff.
You can find them at any hobby store, sometimes even the one dollar store. Museum gift shops probably have the best collection of these sets, they even have the glow in the dark ones...really cool!

From experience, I know that these toys are really neat, educational, fun to build and because they are about 12", they make cool shelf ornaments, especially the glow in the dark ones.

Hope this helps!

Call up David Shwimmer from 'Friends'. I think he had a nice collection on the show.
