How long from now are you traveling and how many days do you have?

Either way, I looked a map to decide where to go. I actually agree with you that 1k is not a lot when it comes to vacations. Everytime I plan one, I find the money goes quickly and I havent even eaten yet. Anyways, you could always go to the beach, but I thought of something a little different for someone who lives on the coast.

I think you will have to drive to keep costs down, so that limits your options on distance. I was thinking you could do a site seeing trip of sorts. Travel the southern region and visit some nice old cities and old CW battle sites and things like that. Depending on your time you have you could end the trip in Richmond, VA or even Williamsburg, VA which is a beautiful historic town (this time we are talking colonial history). It is about 6 hours away from you. I would figure a trip like this would put about 1000 miles on your car and cost you about 180 in gas. You could find some really cheap rooms in some spots or even try a BEQ/BOQ along the way. I would stay someplace nice in Williamsburg and/or VA though. All in all, this ought to stay under 1k.

My second thought is the Smokey Mts. There is a lot to do that cost next to nothing. It is about 350 miles away from Charleston. Its hard to even get an expensive room there. Driving there, assuming you have a car that gets at least 20mpg and that gas stays at 3/gallon, would cost you about 105 in gas there and back, plus add another fill up while you are there for about 150 in gas. Now lets say you live large and are there for four days at a place for 125/nt and this is really high, hotels.com can show you that you can probably stay there for 85/nt. You are now at a total of 650(500 hotel + 150 in gas).

Budget yourself for a 5 day trip (the driving) and 50/day for food and you are at 900. You now have 100 to splurge. You could spend it all at Dollyworld. It is not bad, but unless you cut out some money elsewhere, go see the mountains instead. The Smokies National park is FREE!! Whoopee. Drive around, hike, take pictures, fish (don't forget a license) and just enjoy nature (real nature though, there are bears). Spend your remaining money on a white water rafting trip or even blow a few hours sitting through one of those stupid time share things, but get some cheap tickets to Ripley's aqaurium.

Anyways, there are some suggestions. You should be able to keep it under 1k on a 5 day trip with some extra cheap planning. The days you are in the car, make sandwiches or something and cut back on that 50/day eating. Stay two nights at some cheap 50/nt hotel and then enjoy a cabin or bed and breakfast or something the other 3 nights. You can make it work.

Have Fun!

Yes, I believe you can.
My husband and I did it about 10 years ago with our then 2yr old son. We were younger too.
I think we spent $1500.00 I know that is $500 more than what you have, but we also had and extra little person with us.
We went to Magic Kingdom one day. Which can get pricey. We had a place to stay part of the time , that was family owned, so no money for hotel on that.
You can look into things, for package rates and everything. Just remember, gas is expensive. Are you driving or flying?
You can find nice, inexpensive hotels, get pretty good food, and inexpensive at the hotel dining area if they have one. Also, if you are driving, consider taking a cooler and pack it with food on your way. Not sure where you are going..

For cripes sake yes you can go on a vacation. Try mexico. its cheap. We honeymooned in zihuatanejo/ixtapa for 25 bucks night at the beach. food there cost about 12 bucks for a meal for two. taxi's are every where. boats are everywhere. shops are all over.

the most expensive part was the plane tickets.

We're about to leave tomorrow on a vacation to branson missouri from upstate ny. All we have for this trip is 1000 bucks, and thats about twice as much as we need to survive. IN fact its the most we've had for any road trip we've taken out that way.

Oh heavens! YES!

Depends on what you think is a 'good vacation'. You live in a beautiful part of the world. I would visit the coast if I were you!

Awesome!

There are some great vacation websites like priceline.com that might be helpful. Have you seen your own state? What about Florida? Are there any resorts nearby that you could go to.
