The answer can differ depending on whether you're talking to a person from the USA or a person from Great Britain; we've historically used the word differently. (The same's true for the word "billion.")
To a person in the USA, a trillion is 1,000,000,000,000 -- a million millions.
To a person in the UK, a trillion is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 -- a million million millions.
And, of course, Trillian is the name of a character in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," as well as a popular alternative instant message client.
See the links below for more info. Hope that helps!

It depends on what part of the world you are...
If you are in the USA, it would be:
1,000,000,000,000
(a million millions)
If you are in europe or latin america:
1,000,000,000,000,000,000
(a million million million)
If you are in Puerto Rico, you have to specify:
Is it an American Trillion or Latin American Trillion?

Here's how it works:
1,000 = one thousand
10,000 = ten thousand
100,000 = one hundred thousand
1,000,000 = one million
10,000,000 = ten million
100,000,000 = one hundred million
1,000,000,000 = one billion
10,000,000,000 = ten billion
100,000,000,000 = one hundred billion
1,000,000,000,000 = one trillion
