Widescreen (the one with the black bars at the top and the bottom) because it's the only version that actually shows you what youwere seeing on the movie screen. The other version cuts off the edges. This isn't normally a problem, but many times there are characters standing at the edges that get cut off and lost. The most famous example is in one of the star wars movies when the milenium falcon hides in an asteroid field and darth vadar sends the destroyers into the field after it. They are having a hologram conference when the command center of one of the ships is struck by an asteroid. They go back to the conference and one of the guys at the edge winces and then fades away... he's dead. On the pan and scan version you miss the whole thing. Don't you want to see what the director intends for you to see?

Since I have a tradtional (3:4) 32" TV, I still like the old full screen, but many new movies are shot in widescreen, and more & more people have widescreen TV's, so that's where everything is headed I think. Th eonly bad thing is that many TV shows which are not shot in widescreen look terrible when "stretched" to fit a widescreen TV.

the widescreen version is supposed to be how the movie was presented in theaters. with the fullscreen version a "square" is taken from the middle of the screen and "stretched out"; consequently you can't see as much on the screen as a widescreen edition.
i also hated the widescreen bars, but i've grown to like it since the picture doesn't seem as distorted as the fullscreen version.

Widescreen is better, because you don't lose any portion of the picture, and you are viewing the film the way the filmmaker intended it to be seen. Fullscreen chops the sides off of the picture so it will fill up a regular tv screen. Fullscreen is pointless....I don't know what they were thinking.

With full screen you're missing a large portion of the picture on the left and right sides of the screen. If you compare the two side by side, you actually miss a lot and it takes away from the experience.
Also, new TVs today are formatted for the wide-screen ratio, which makes sense. Why should movie theatre screen be wider than TV screens in the first place. The wider the better I say!

I prefer wide screen myself. The difference is that wide screen is the version you watch in the theaters. Full screen has a couple of inches cut off on each side so that it fits your TV better. Also if you have a wide screen TV you don't get those black bars so it wouldn't even be a choice.

Widescreen, I have a widescreen TV and love it. You get to see the more of the movie that gets cut off for regular TVs.

i prefer the full screen. I like to see the whole picture. It's what i grew up with and now that they are changing things on us these days i like it better the way it use to be. But, can deal with wide screen. It will just annoy me the whole time i am watching the movie just like as if there was a fly on the monitor of your computer screen while you are trying to type.
